Prototype & Model Overview: The purpose of these cars was to accomodate the transportation of aircraft parts, in the 1960s the railroads developed new cars featuring lids mounted atop the flat car that protected the aircraft subassemblies during transport. Many of these cars were in assigned service routes to facilitate the aircraft builder’s assembly process for various aircraft. These cars became known as the “Sky Box” and are still in service today. Eight colorful paint schemes in both HO and N Scale are being offered for the first time by InterMountain. The HO version will feature individual formed wire grab irons. Both the HO and N Scale versions will feature laser sharp decoration and will be equipped with operating knuckle couplers and precision InterMountain metal wheel sets.
