Acela II Prototype Overview:
Building on Amtrak’s expertise as the only high speed rail operator in the U.S. and Alstom’s record of delivering world class, proven, high speed trainsets - Amtrak and Alstom have partnered to introduce the next generation of Acela. The trainsets are being assembled in Alstom's facility in Hornell, N.Y
Based on the TGV “Avelia Liberty” trains that currently run in Europe, these articulated trainsets have two compact power cars (one on each end) as well as eight articulated intermediate trailer coaches, and one centrally located non-articulated café car. They will operate at speeds of up to 160 mph on the North East Corridor.
