PSXX-AR Wye Tail Wiring & MRC Prodigy Express
Hello Tony’s Trains, I am in the process of adding to my layout and would appreciate a little technical input.
I started with a small [6’4” X 4’] HO layout with my grandkids. It’s basically an oval within an oval and a couple of spurs. I have an MRC Prodigy Express2 system which has been able to handle two locomotives with ease.
I would like to add a 2’X8’ switching layout to the ovals, but will likely seldom if ever need more than two or three locos at one time. I expect to use bus wires on the whole layout. However, the plan is to have two legs pulled from the oval that will end up as a reversing Wye in the addition.
So here are some questions:
- Will the MRC Prodigy Express2 controller be sufficient for the combined setup? I hate to spend more for a booster than I did for the original control system!
- Should I use the MRC auto reverse module or use another manufacturer’s model with the MRC system I already have?
Thanks for your advice……Mack B.
Hi Mark,
- The MRC Prodigy Express2 should have enough power [1.6 amps] for three locos
- We highly recommend using both the PSXX circuit breaker and PSXX-AR auto reverser for your layout:
- We recommend the "wiring for a wye tail" method; see marked diagram below
- PSXX Zone Green
- PSXX-AR Zone Red
