The table below outlines what Aux outputs are available to use on the various flavors of LokSound 5 decoders. Note that some outputs have multiple options available. The two most important ones for our uses are:

Pad: Power - This means that in order to use the Aux output as a powered output (for an LED, for instance) you have to solder the LED to the corresponding pad on the decoder itself. It is important to note that if you plan on wiring off of the decoder pads, you must use a resistor rated between 470 Ohms and 2.2 kOhms wired in series with the LED.

21MTC: Logic Level - This means that the Aux output will only function as a logic level output. These provide the control signal for the output only. For powered use, an adapter board such as a Nix Trainz Decoder Buddy connector board must be used.

Note: Unlike the old Select Direct and V4.0 Direct, the ESU 58821 LokSound 5 Direct does not support Aux 3 or Aux 4 as powered outputs located on the motherboard. They are logic level only.
