Speakers:
Two 1" speakers or our elliptical 1.2x1.7 will fit most HO installations and sounds great.

Start up CV's (Hex):
CV29: 02, CV50: 09, CV52: 54, CV54: 2E or 3E. Use these CV values for nominal settings.

Best Sounds:
Westside Shay, East Broadtop, K37, K36, UP Chall, And SP GS-4.

No Cam VS Cam:
If loco runs well autocam works ok. Avoid Cam installations if you can, it is difficult and requires maintenance.

Brain Dead:
Continuous power cycles, short circuits, may corrupt DSD CV info and force it into reset mode. This can be minimized by installing a 16V 470MF capacitor between Blue (RV Common) and speaker negative, DSD Ground.
Note: Digitrax owners if you do this with two loco's your 5amp booster may not restart after track fault (short circuit) because of starting load. 8amp DB200+ works fine.

Blown Speakers:
DSD delivers 1 watt, which can blow small speakers. You can minimize this by programming CV50: 09 sets unit for ½ vol. or by using 5-10 Ohm 1 watt resistor in series with speaker lead. Note! Diesel uses CV 60 & 61 with other values.

DSD 150 with "O" and "G" Gauges:
You can use a DSD 150 and develop a 4amp motor drive output by using a Tony's PPx4 Power Pax Booster.

MRC:

Twin Command 2000:
If you want to expand your units capability MRC is designing a way to network two Command 2000 units to double your pleasure!

8amp Booster:
Expect 8amp DCC booster from MRC about 100 MSRP at National Show in July.

DCC Sound:
MRC DCC sound units available for Christmas? Only one function though, so you can't toot your horn or ring your bell together.

Digitrax:

Make Life Easy:
Follow directions in Chief Manual (see 24) and set DCS 100 option switch settings as follows: OPSW# 05: "Closed", Recommended by Digitrax.
OPSW# 18: "Closed", Extends Short Circuit Shut Down Time.
OPSW# 25: "Closed", Disables Aliasing, if your not using it, eliminates throttle trapped in alias 00:00 mode and much confusion.
OPS# 33,34: "Closed", turns on track power for you.
OPS# 44: "Closed", eliminates overloaded stacks (FF) on DT100 when selecting locos. Expands system throttle capacity.

DH150A/DH150K:
Both decoders share same circuit board. Since we recommend soldering all terminations DH150K (supplied with spacers and lead extensions) is only needed in Kato GP-35, SD-40, and Stuart/Kato F units. All other Atlas/Kato types can use DH150A and save $. For all DH150A/K installations we retain factory light rods. And mount directional bulbs with blockers on DH150 bd to provide directional lights.

Heavy (Light) Loads:
If your planning to run more than 2amps of incandescent lites on a 5 amp Digitrax sysem, (lighted passenger cars or multiple loco's with multiple lites), you will probably need a DB200+, 8 amp, booster. High starting loads (bulbs) will cause DB100 and DCS100 to shutdown or not restart due to short circuit protection devices in these units.

DH120VS DH140 (Chief Owners):
While you save about $14.00 when you buy a DH120, instead of a DH140, here is what you loose

  1. Thermal Protection
  2. Short Circuit Protection
  3. 2 Additional Functions
  4. No OPS Mode Programming
  5. No Advance Consisting

OK, 1,2, and 3 we can live without, but 4 and 5 are related to the Chief's features. OPS Mode Programming, programming on the main track, is a powerful tool that lets you change start voltage, acceleration, deceleration, loadable speed tables, mid point voltage, top voltage, and more while operating on the main track. You need to do this to see the benefits.

Advanced Consisting:
This feature has significance for multi-operator, multi-unit layouts. Advance Consist decoders use CV19 to store an advanced consist address. When an advance consists is set up the command station only has to broadcast 1 consist address for the entire consist rather than an address for each train in the consist. Advanced Consisting reduces the activity on cab bus which enhances response timing, especially for sound unit operators.
