We just received today the latest run of BlueLine Mikados 2-8-2 steam locomotives with DC/DCC Sound.

When new batches arrive we sample test to verify functionality. The first four we tested failed for the following reasons:

  1. Headlites not working,
  2. No chuff.

We saw no reason to test any more and are returning the lot to the BlueLine. At this point, the jury is still out as to the integrity of the production lot. We expect BlueLine to issue a policy statement soon.

While the BlueLine concept seemed like a good idea to lower costs, the DCC users have had numerous problems with programming.

We have understood for 15 years now that two decoders in a loco is an accident waiting to happen. Furthermore the uncoupled operation of two decoders does not permit the improved performance of today's integrated units that feature "Sound of Power" and more.
