You need at least one type of Brake Generator to operate any type of BitSwitch
The Basic Brake on DC Generator is manually operated and is suitable for systems where the mobile decoders support DC analog conversion for braking, e.g. NCE, TCS, Digitrax, Lenz. One Brake Generator serves multiple Bitswitches.
Basic Brake on DC Generator BitSwitches have two positions:
- In the OFF position the section of the layout controlled will operate as if no automatic controls exist.
However Signals continue to operate and Braking Sequence Logic is maintained for easy resumption of automatic operation.
- In the ON position trains in this section will be controlled and dispatched by the BitSwitches contained in this section.
The basic “DC Brake Generator BitSwitch” is a manual toggle switch.
In either position [on,off] a decoder can be sent new commands for speed changes, lights, sound etc.
If the particular train addressed is currently under automatic braking, new commands will not be activated until the train is released.
Only one DC Brake Generator is required for multiple BitSwitches
All Brake Generators provide the master power feed for multiple BitSwitches™ contained in the layout. If you wish to have separate sections automated while others are operated by engineers, one switch is required for each independent section.
If your railroad has DCC and you want to automate, you need DCC-Bitswitch. BitSwitches are compatible with all DCC systems and locomotive decoders that respond to Brake on DC Set Speed Zero (Brake Generators).
