You may need to increase the Trip Rate of the PSXX because of high current requirements from your locomotives. A little background and what you may be seeing:

  • By default, the PSXX Trip Rate is two amps
  • Trip Rate and Current Limit are the same setting {CV49]
  • Current Limit us only available from the PSXX
  • Current limit is not availabe from the PSXX-AR
  • The locomotive[s] are proceeding down the tracks
  • The Loco stops - starts - stops - starts -stops
  • At the same time:
  1. The D18 BLUE LED will flicker quickly indicating the CURRENT LIMIT has been reached:
  2. When the Current Limit has been reached a timer begins to count down
  3. If the Current Limit exceeds the timer, the PSXX turns power off to the output
  4. The D17 RED LED will turn on and the D7 GREEN LED will turn off, indicating power to the track has been turned off
  5. After about two seconds, the PSXX may turn DCC track power ON to the output and the sequence repeats itself

You need to increase the PSXX Trip Rate to accommodate large current draw locomotives:

  • Program CV49 to a higher Trip Rate / Current Limit value
  • CV49 value = Trip Rate / Current Limit
  • CV49 valid values = 1-10
  • For example CV49 = 5 = 5 amp Trip Rate / Current limit
  • Make sure you do not exceed the amperage output of your DCC booster
  • See the full manual link and the step by step instructions for programing located towards the end of the PSXX manual
