Magnificent Machines from Montreal!

Produced between 1973 and 1977, the M420 was a competitor to EMD's highly successful GP38-2. A total of 80 units were ordered by Canadian National who used them almost exclusively in Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritime Provinces. Occasionally they would make their way down the Central Vermont to Palmer, Massachusetts.

Along with the GP38-2s arriving at Canadian National around the same time, these were some of the first units to feature the Canadian comfort cab which was designed to enhance crew safety and comfort. Powered by the reliable ALCo 251C prime mover, these units produced 2,000 horsepower.

This is Rapido's second run of M420s. In this run, they are focusing on the units rebuilt in 1985 and 1986 in the 3500 number series. These units were rebuilt to replace the aging RS18 fleet for use on secondary and branch lines, and required several modifications for their new service assignments. These modifications included rebuilt long hoods and smaller fuel tanks.

They are an incredible model reproduction of the real thing. They feel solid in your hands and have tons of prototype details, specific to each road number. They come in two different paint scheme variations; the classic Sargent Stripe scheme and the later CN North America scheme. We have several road numbers in stock, equipped with ESU LokSound DCC/Sound. Click the button below or any of the images above to order yours!
