Larry Maier, co-developer of the "Digital Direct Couplers" technology recently demonstrated at the "Big E" Train Show in Springfield, MA, announced that development and production efforts are on schedule. Plans for pricing, delivery and the initial retrofit kits are:
The Proto 2000, SW8/900/600, SW9/1200 series of EMD yard switchers. All share the same frame.
SW Retrofit Kits include all you need to upgrade your loco to DDC:
- Hardware Package; including linkages, motor mounts, bell cranks and Kadee #5 couplers.
- Two, precision micro motors.
- Coupler driver circuit module used in conjunction with a DCC decoder.
- Complete step by step instructions with drawings and diagrams.
Production is in process and Kits are planned to ship by early April. The MSRP or list price is $119.95, Tony's $99.95. The product code is: LIF/SW/HO.
Tony's is also offering a complete installation service with your loco, ready to run for $159.95. If you intend to do the installation yourself, Tonys is offering a frame exchange for $9.95. Here is frame mod drawing.

"While we have made every effort to make the DDC kits easy to install", says Larry, "you should have skills comparable to installing a decoder in a loco that needs modification, if you want to do the installation yourself."
