We combined a Fan Driven Smoke Unit and the Quantum Revolution sound decoders to get realistic puffing smoke. The Quantum sound decoders exclusive software may be the only aftermarket sound decoder that can generate this special effect.
Recently Broadway Limited released a new run of the popular PRR I1sa Decapod. This run of locos featured both factory installed sound, and puffing smoke, but one of the units we received had a faulty sound unit. Our staff member Josh saw an opportunity to try out something we'd been wondering about for a while now. He removed the Paragon 2 sound system and with minimal effort installed a QSI Revolution U.
The Fan Driven Smoke Unit was still functional so he connected it to two function outputs on the Revolution-U in an attempt to save the puffing smoke. The Quantum decoder was then programmed accordingly. The results were very impressive, better than the factory's due to the Progressive Chuff feature in the Revolution series of decoders.
The best part is that this didn't require any special software. It was all done with existing Quantum software architecture. This is a great news, modelers can now add puffing smoke to their locomotives by using a Fan Driven Smoke Unit and the Quantum Revolution sound decoder.
We shot a brief video and posted it to YouTube for everyone to enjoy.
The soundset in the locomotive features many new sounds from QSI Solutions including the new "MDBanshee" whistle which is a current digital high resolution recording of a PRR Banshee. The new digital recordings are far superior to prior offerings.
