The new Proto 2000, HO FA + FB locos have arrived. As expected the detail and running performance is excellent. The A&B units are powered and DCC ready with the NMRA 8 pin socket. There is plenty of room behind the cockpit to mount all the popular DCC decoders that have the NMRA plug.

For sound installation there are many options and many conflicts. We brainstormed for a while and then elected to install Soundtraxx DSD150 in the "B" unit by removing the existing loco circuit board, we needed the room, only six connections are required.

The Tony's box speaker is a perfect fit into the cab area.

We chose a NCE D104P for plug in into the A unit because the NCE default speed table matches the Soundtraxx DSD150 default speed table.

Proto FB with sound

If you have a Mars Lite, you cannot use function I on the D104 because there is a conflict with function I (bell) on DST150. We wired the Mars to work with headlite.

You could use the A+B pair in a consist with different address and then use function I for the FA decoder.
