PowerCab Review (PDF only)

For those of you who have been waiting ... thanks ... we expect to ship all system backorders starting this Friday!

We received our first production PowerCab today (Jan 18, 2006) and it proved to be worth the wait.
It truly is a DCC System in the palm of your hand and much more at a great price!

We immediately tested it and verified that it does all as stated in the NCE specs. We comfortably ran 4 HO DCC sound equipped locos with no noticeable drop in performance. All programming modes whether on the program track or the main worked flawlessly. Reading and writing CVs was routine.

So far, the PowerCab is the most high performance entry level DCC system ever offered. We suspect it will soon have a big piece of market.

We plan to do a more detailed review of the PowerCab soon, but for now it appears to be a winner.

There are several important things that PowerCab users should be mindful of:

The system comes with 2 different cab cables, a flat 6 conductor cable that is used only for the PowerCab mode that plugs into a specific socket of the Power Panel, and a 4 conductor coiled cable that is used for the normal connection when using the PowerCab with another NCE system. The 4 conductor coiled cable can also be used to connect any other NCE Cab to the Power Panel. See diagram.

If a second cab is used it must be set to Cab Address 3.
