Programming Your MTH K-4 Pacific

It’s come to our attention that the new offering from MTH has some issues being programmed on DCC. It’s fair to say that since this is the first HO scale locomotive that MTH has produced, their DCS system is probably not owned by many HO scale operators. Unfortunately the loco has a number of hang-ups when programming with anything except DCS. So here are the extended steps to successfully assign your loco an extended address:

NOTE: ALL PROGRAMMING STEPS MUST BE DONE ON THE MAINLINE!

Addressing 2 Digit
On The Mainline Enter The Address You want Your Locomotive To Have Into CV 1.

Addressing 4 Digit
On The Mainline Enter A Value of 50 Into CV 29. Then go to ...
http://ruppweb.dyndns.org/xray/comp/decoder.htm ... and enter the desired address into the provided box. The calculator will then give you the appropriate values to enter into CV’s 17 and 18.

NOTE: Some systems either do not allow programming of addresses on the mainline or for some reason the steps listed do not work. Try entering the values for CV 17 and 18 instead into CV’s 50 and 51.

ALSO:

  • MRC Prodigy Advanced F11 –F19 were not made to the NMRA standard so if your using this system you cannot access F11-F19.  Contact MRC for a software upgrade.
  • Also remember, if your local hobby shop has DCS and you want to change certain settings but do not have access to them via DCC, your hobby shop can change the setting (smoke volume or chuff rate) using the DCS system and it will retain the changes for you when you run it with a DCC system.
