The Niagara 4-8-4 is yet another impressive BLI steam release is in stock now.

The new Broadway Ltd New York Central Niagara 4-8-4s have arrived! These large locos continue the tradition of well-detailed large steam locomotives that Broadway has established with their previous releases, with many individually attached pipes and other detail parts.

Like the ATSF 4-8-4 it has a long wheelbase, but managed our tight 22-inch turns without derailing once. What was even more impressive is that the centipede tender never derailed, even while going in reverse at high speeds through turnouts and on curves. We were able to pull 14 cars around the layout, although it would most likely pull more on broader curves that were less than our 4% grade. Unlike previous releases there is no spare set of flangeless drivers or a set with traction tires. There is an operating front coupler.

The sound is of the same quality as you’ve come to expect from all of the previous QSI-equipped Broadway steam releases, with all of the advanced features. The Niagara has a whistle similar to the Hudson, so it has a distinctive NYC sound. The Niagara has one speaker like the Cab Fowards and uses a sound tube to improve the sound.
